In the twilight of his writing career, Tyson Parks returns to his New York City apartment on the night of his 59th birthday to a warm and unexpected celebration. Surrounded by friends, family, and the love of his devoted partner, he receives a remarkable gift awaiting him in his study: an antique, ornately carved writing desk with a mysterious past. It seems to beckon him, demanding one final, great novel. But as the desk begins to exert its influence, one question looms: will the words he writes truly be his own?

Enter the world of Gothic by Philip Fracassi in this inaugural rebind project by Hatteras Path. This project involved artists and craftsman from around to the world to create the finest quality hardback version of the first edition of Gothic. This series is limited to only ten Roman Numeral copies for sale, numbered I through X. Additionally, we will offer one Contest Edition in special hand-tooled red leather to a purchaser of the Roman Numeral Edition. The winner will be selected at random and the book will be FREE.

The Roman Numeral Edition features a Bradel binding using black goatskin from Alran Tannery, complemented by leather along the fore edge of the boards. The title and author names are in silver and red foil. The boards are adorned with custom tiger-eye marbled paper from Brazilian master marbler Renato Crepaldi. This intricate pattern is achieved through a delicate chemical process involving the interaction of pigments with specific additives, resulting in the distinctive "eye" effect. Black Hahnemühle Bugra paper serves as the endpapers, and each book is accompanied by a drop-spine clamshell enclosure with a goatskin label. The half-title pages, frontispiece, tailpiece, and limitation pages are printed in Obra Letra type on Mohawk Superfine paper.

Contest Edition

The special red leather Contest Edition is fully bound in red leather, featuring hand tooling, with endpapers showcasing Renato Crepaldi's tiger-eye marbled design. All books are meticulously crafted by Gerald Ward (Bibliopathologist), a distinguished bookbinder, conservator, and educator, whose expertise has been invaluable to this project.

Original Art

We have commissioned four original artworks from the exceptionally talented Greek artist Alexandros Pyromallis. For each copy, these pieces are incorporated as the frontispiece, tailpiece, limitation page, and custom bookmarks. The original page block of the first edition remains intact, seamlessly integrating the new illustrations. Each book bears the signatures of Philip Fracassi and Alexandros Pyromallis.

Bonus Material

In addition to the Contest Edition giveaway, there are several other bonus materials included with this title.

Frontispiece Prints will be made available for sale. Prints are limited to 100 copies and are signed by Alexandros Pyromallis and Philip Fracassi. They are printed on Mohawk Skytone Natural 65lb (~175GSM) Cover Vellum to create a mysterious and antique appearance. Prints will ship separately and rolled in tubes.

Additionally, Alexandros Pyromallis has returned four pages with remarques. These include two half-title pages and two limitation pages. All remarque pages were distributed randomly across all copies of the books.
