Who we are

Hatteras Path Editions is a new fine press based out of North Carolina. We focus on signed, limited fine press editions of classic and contemporary literature. We also focus on custom projects and high-quality rebinds through our in-house bindery, Bibliopathologist. Our goal is to create the finest quality books at an attainable price for our patrons and members.

Dr. Jason Lattier and Gerald Ward came to fine press work by different roads, but for much the same reason, a belief that things made well, and made with care, matter.

Jason is a North Carolina native whose years of travel eventually carried him back home, where collecting fine press books led him deeper into the craft behind them.  Jason spent most of his life in plant sciences where he moved easily between research and creation. He has published widely, bred new plants into existence, and built a tropical conservatory from the ground up, all while developing a sharp eye for design and a talent for managing complicated creative undertakings. He brings to Hatteras Path a steady hand for project management, a designer’s instincts, and a lifelong interest in beauty that earns its keep.

Gerald Ward is a North Carolina based bookbinder, conservator, and librarian who has spent more than two decades inside the bones of books, figuring out how they are built, how they fail, and how they can be made to last. His work ranges from custom bindings and archival enclosures to the conservation of rare and consequential volumes, always guided by respect for material, structure, and history. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he approaches the bench with discipline and patience, and a refusal to cut corners that do not deserve cutting.

Where Jason brings vision and orchestration, Gerald brings the weight of craft and care. Together, they make books meant to be collected, read, and argued over long after the ink has dried.

Welcome to the Path.

Our Mission

Hatteras Path Editions exists to become the next great American fine press, dedicated to crafting books of enduring beauty, material excellence, and lasting value. We are a collector-driven, member-focused press, committed to producing the finest possible editions using exceptional materials and traditional craftsmanship, while keeping our books attainable for dedicated readers and collectors through disciplined production, fair pricing, and member-focused access rather than artificial scarcity.

Our aim is to create books that are not only a pleasure to read and hold, but objects that retain or increase their value over time, earning their place as heirlooms rather than commodities.

We plan to publish four major titles annually, announced quarterly, complemented by occasional chapbooks and short works that allow for creative experimentation, collaboration, and responsiveness outside the primary publishing cadence.

Central to our vision is the cultivation of a vibrant and engaged community through the Pathkeepers Circle Membership Program, developed in close collaboration with our in-house bindery, Bibliopathologist. This membership model ensures a sustainable publishing rhythm, deepens the connection between press and collector, and supports the long-term health of both the books and the craft behind them.

Through careful curation, thoughtful design, and uncompromising standards, Hatteras Path Editions seeks to honor the traditions of fine press publishing while building a distinctly American legacy, one rooted in craft, stewardship, collaboration, and a shared love of the book.
