Rights & Policies

Hatteras Path Editions is committed to craftsmanship, clarity, and continuity. The following outlines our policies regarding edition rights, ordering, fulfillment, and returns. We reserve the right to amend these policies as the press grows and evolves. Updated policies will be reflected on this page.

Edition Rights

Hatteras Path follows a traditional fine press rights structure for numbered and lettered editions.

Numbered & Lettered Copies

Patrons who purchase a numbered or lettered copy of a fine press edition will retain the right to reserve that same number or letter for future fine press titles, provided they participate during the designated early purchase window.

This continuity honors collectors who wish to build a consistent series across our editions.

Early Purchase Access

Rights holders will receive a private password granting access to an early purchase window before public sale begins. During this period, they may secure their reserved number or letter.

If a rights holder does not purchase during the designated window, that number or letter may be released for general sale at our discretion.

Commencement of Fine Press Rights

The formal rights system for our fine press titles will begin following the launch of our membership program.

Early membership supporters will receive priority in selecting their letter or number before pre-orders of the first fine press title are opened to the public.

Further details regarding membership tiers and privileges will be announced in advance of launch.

Rebind Series

Our Rebind Series operates under a separate and distinct rights system from our fine press editions.

Roman Numeral or Lettered copies in the Rebind Series confer rights to the next rebind title. But, they do not confer rights to fine press editions.

Each series is curated and administered independently.

Fulfillment

Hatteras Path Editions operates on a pre-order model for many of its fine press titles.

Production Timeline

Because each edition is produced by hand and may involve multiple collaborators — including authors, guest authors, artists, printers, and bookbinders — fulfillment timelines may vary.

Delivery may occur:

  • Within a few months of purchase, or

  • In some cases, over a year after purchase

The timeline depends on the complexity of the edition and the nature of the craft involved.

We will provide periodic updates as significant production milestones are reached.

Handmade Nature of the Work

Each edition reflects the realities of handmade production. Minor variations include but are not limited to:

  • Paper tone

  • Binding tension

  • Cloth grain

  • Impression depth

  • Edge treatment

  • Signature placement

Minor variations are inherent to fine press craftsmanship and are not considered defects.

Such variations are part of the individuality of each copy.

Returns & Exchanges

Due to the limited and handcrafted nature of our editions, all sales are considered final.

However, we reserve the right to consider returns or exchanges on a case-by-case basis in the event of:

  • Significant production defects

  • Damage incurred during transit

Requests must be made within 2 months of delivery and accompanied by photographic documentation.

Natural variations consistent with handmade bookbinding and letterpress printing are not grounds for return.

If a return is approved, the edition must be received in original condition before any refund is issued.

Shipping costs are non-refundable unless an error was made on our part.

Shipping & Risk of Loss

All orders are carefully packed and insured where appropriate.

Once an order has been transferred to the carrier, risk of loss transfers to the purchaser. In the event of shipping damage, we will work with you to resolve the matter in coordination with the carrier.

International orders may be subject to customs duties or import taxes imposed by the destination country. These charges are the responsibility of the recipient.
