Hot Off the Press

Off to the Printers!

March 2026

Our first fine press title is progressing beautifully.

In the last week we have received:

  • the foreword from our guest author

  • the afterword from our title author

  • all six interior illustrations from our artist

It has been our most exciting week yet, and every one of our collaborators delivered exceptional work.

We are now finalizing the print-ready files. Soon they will be on their way to Scott Vile at The Ascensius Press for letterpress printing this Spring.

All three editions of this title will be printed letterpress. Stay tuned!

Rights Secured for our Second Title

December 2025

You would think with our Fracassi rebind series and our first fine press title underway, we would slow down a step.

NOPE!

I’m happy to announce that we have secured rights to our second title. This is a title and author well known to the collector community. In addition to the main story, the author has agreed to include a new introduction, deleted chapters from the original manuscript, and a new short story. For our artist, we have commissioned a local North Carolina artist with over 20 years of experience in illustration.

We are excited to see what rises to the surface with this talented team! We are hoping to announce this title in Summer of 2026 and open pre-orders in the Fall.

Rights Secured for our First Title

November 2025

I’m happy to announce that we have secured rights to our first title!

This title has elements of philosophy, horror, and science fiction. It felt like forever finding the perfect title, but this is one strange story that we couldn’t get out of our heads. And, it deserves the fine press treatment.

In addition to the main story, we have commissioned a guest author to write a new foreword, and the title author has agreed to include a new afterword and other supplemental materials, including a page of calculations for the mathematically inclined.

For our artist, we were lucky to land out top choice to bring this story to life. She has illustrated books for Gollancz, The Folio Society, and more. We are excited to bring the first signed, limited editions of this wild novel to life!

We are hoping to announce this title in Spring of 2026 and open up pre-orders soon after.

Frontispiece Prints Signed by Artist and Author

September 2025

We loved the frontispiece illustration for Gothic so much, we have decided to offer signed, limited prints.

After test prints, we have chose a very cool Mohawk Skytone Natural Vellum paper which lends an ancient (dare we say gothic) feel to the prints.

What’s more, both the author and artist have agreed to sign the prints! So our prints have flown to Greece for the artist’s signature, California for the author signature, and now they have arrived back in our shop in North Carolina.

We will number these and make them available for sale when we open up orders for Gothic. We can wait for you to see them up close!

Art for Gothic Rebind is Done!

July 2025

Over the summer we decided to add one more illustration to our Gothic rebind.

We just could let this project go without a tailpiece illustration of the demise of Diana Montresor. Alexandros pitched us this idea back in Spring, but we decided to just commission a frontispiece.

Well, the idea festered in our minds and we decided to go for it! Alexandros has now wrapped up three illustrations.

Illustrations include a frontispiece showing vignettes from the entire story, a bookmark illustration of a slightly melted Signor Federico Croce (that church fire really did some damage), a tailpiece illustration showing the demise of Diana Montresor, and a limitation page illustration showing the rescue of Violet.

In addition to the final artwork, Alexandros has completed remarques for four special patrons, two on the half title pages and two on the limitation pages. These will be given away at random.

Now, on to the binding!

Renato Crepaldi Papers for Gothic

May 2025

We have commissioned the master of tiger-eye marbling to craft custom papers for our rebind of Gothic.

When choosing the type of marbled paper, we considered the swirly black portal at the center of Tyson’s desk, the scorched white eyes of Croce, and the blackened aniridia eyes of Diana Montresor.

We gave Renato free rein to interpret the brief and he created one of the most mesmerizing and disturbing papers we have ever seen. We will use the papers on the boards of our Roman Numberal edition. And, we will use them as endpapers on red leather contest edition.

We can’t wait to work with Renato again on future projects!

Alexandros Pyromallis Commissioned for Gothic

April 2025

One of our goals on the first edition rebind project was to leave the original book blocks intact while still adding new artwork.

Our options were a new bookmark illustration, a frontispiece illustration, and a limitation page illustration. To fit enough of the story into just a few illustrations, we needed to find just the right artist.

Enter Alexandros Pyromallis (yes, that’s his real name). He’s a master of detailed horror illustrations and a perfect illustrator for Gothic.

From his studio in Athens, Greece, Alexandros will craft the world of Gothic with pen and ink and bring a new vision of the story to life.

Let Croce be your guide, Alexandros! And, may you not go mad in the process.
